Valentine's Day

I don't like Valentine's Day.

  1. It's heavily commercialized, just like Mother's and Father's Day. (And every other weekend.)
  2. If you really care for someone, you care for them all year round. 24/7/365. Period.
  3. It's playing with the guilt that we might not care enough for our loved ones.
  4. It's playing with the conception that if you're not one of the "lucky ones" receiving a Valentine's card, you're a loser.
  5. Lonely people feel even more lonely and alienated.

So, in honour of all those not receiving aValentine's Card, here's one for you:

Remember, even if you don't receive a Valentine's Card, you're still worth a tonne of love.

Valentine's day pretty much loses steam after 5th or 6th grade when you stop doing valentine card trading in class. It's been a long while since I wasn't in a relationship, but I agree: when you're not in one, nothing sucks harder than watching people at school or work receive cards and roses while you just get a pitiful "better luck next year" smile.

oh thanks POP - I am in a particularly Hating mood for this stupid holiday, it DOES make me feel bad that I'm alone AGAIN - like I am some loser and no one will love me. Really I already know that (that I'm a loser and no one will love me) honestly do I need a holiday to remind me of this? sheesh!
