I got my first english test back today. We have four grades: Not Passed, Barely Passed, Passed with Honour and Passed with High Honour.
I got PwH. If I had studied more, I would probably had an PwHH, but sick kids and studying is just as hard as putting out fire with gasoline. In fact, it was the word lay, as in lay the table (lay, laid, laid) and lie, as in lie in bed (lie, lain, lying) that screwed my brain up. I also, with a slip of my brain, called a freezer for refrigerator. Not to mention I managed to spell the word too as to, on two occasions. And, of course, I used the american way of spelling a couple of words.
Those mistakes were not so bad and with those only, I would have gotten a PwHH but then there where the idioms... I understood them alright but I didn't manage to translate them in the proper way. Oh, well... At least I didn't get BP. :)
For those of you interested in small and simple programs for learning geography, languages, typing or just playing simple games, I can recommend this site. They are all for free. Me and my kids use them frequently and have a lot of fun.
I'm trying to re-arrange the blog. So far, all that has happened is that it looks strange. At least in Firefox. In IE it looks good but the font is huge. I want three columns, one main and two sidebars. I'm not giving up until I've suceeded.
The other night I was watching National Geographic, about their Genographic Project. Fascinating stuff! Interesting that Thomas Jefferson's forefathers' originated from the Middle East... Even more fascinating is the fact that they found out that "Scientific Adam", the forefather to every living male, lived only 60.000 years ago. I'm not quite sure if that means that he's the forefather to ALL human beings, but all the other male bloodlines eventually died out. And all this was found out by studying the Y-chromosome and it's mutations.
That means that we're like dogs. Scrape the surface and you find a wolf. In our case we find humanity. We're all cousins. I like that thought.

Congrad's on the passing with honors. English has become my first language and I still get too and to wrong and lay and laid wrong. I have sinking feeling I might have just passed that test. How sad is that?! I think your English is very good, decidedly better than my Swedish :-) !

I think your English is extremely good. I have found many non-native English speakers to speak the language fine, but have lots of problems writing it. You seem to have gotten the written English down really well...so, I'm betting you speak it well, also!
By the way, any news on your Math exam? I'm betting you did well on that one, too! Such a smarty, huh?!

Virginia Gal: Thank you! Well, we get drilled with english from third grade and I bet you didn't get drilled with Swedish at that time. :)
Francesca: Thank you, to you too! I don't know if I speak English well since I haven't got any English speaking people around. I do know that I speak it a little better than my English teacher though... :)
Math exam went down the drain. I just can't get the rules right. Strangely enough I have no problem counting money... :D

On the Math, well, to be honest I think that counting money is the only counting you probably need to do anyway!
